Los Duendes
Los Duendes brings the spirit of global psychedelia to the heart of Vancouver's music scene, weaving together Cumbia, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and roots music into an electrifying tapestry of sound. This five-piece ensemble, whose name evokes the mischievous and magical spirits of Latin American folklore, transforms every venue into an unstoppable dance party with their unique fusion of traditional and contemporary styles.
Born from Vancouver's diverse cultural landscape and united through their studies at Vancouver Community College's prestigious music program, Los Duendes represents a true cross-cultural collaboration. Their lineup includes musicians with Colombian, Mexican, African, Portuguese, and French Canadian heritage, each bringing their distinct musical traditions to the group's innovative sound.
The band's instrumental makeup—featuring dual electric guitars, drum kit, congas, auxiliary percussion, and bass—creates a rich foundation for their three-part vocal harmonies. This dynamic configuration allows them to move seamlessly between psychedelic explorations and traditional Cumbia rhythms, while maintaining the infectious groove that has become their trademark.
Los Duendes' repertoire primarily consists of original compositions that push the boundaries of contemporary Latin fusion, while paying homage to the roots of Chicha and Latin jazz. Their setlists are punctuated with carefully selected covers that showcase the diversity of South American Cumbia, reimagined through their distinctive lens.
As fixtures at Vancouver's Guilt & Co. and regular performers at British Columbia's summer festival circuit, Los Duendes has built a reputation for transforming any space into a vibrant celebration of music and movement. Their performances are more than concerts—they're communal experiences where traditional rhythms meet modern energy, creating an irresistible call to dance that audiences can't help but answer.
